Unsurprisingly, Tim Hansen was nervous before oral argument to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in Huml v. Vlazny, a 2006 case of first impression and recognized by Wisconsin Lawyer as one of the most significant cases of 2006.

But Hansen, then just four years out of law school, went to work once he saw the green light.
“It was like talking to seven very smart people in my living room. It became a very engaging, back-and-forth conversation. The justices clearly got it — and they got it right,” says Hansen, referring to the unanimous decision in his client’s favor.

If those justices “had been” in Hansen’s living room, he could’ve likely offered them a fine vintage — Hansen’s a wine enthusiast — and they would’ve met his wife and two-year-old son.

Perhaps the evening would end with a jam session — Hansen is a wicked guitarist. He plays classic rock and originals in a band called “Bad Salad.”
