C. Wade Harrison may be one of the more recent law school graduates in the Up & Coming Lawyers Section, but he is also one of the oldest.

Harrison took an untraditional route to the profession — working as a camp director in southern California for several years after finishing undergrad in 1995; then working in international trade in Chicago for several years; then working as an administrator in the University of Chicago Hospital for several more.

His contacts with the labor and employment attorneys at the hospital convinced him to pursue a J.D., rather than an M.B.A., when he returned to graduate school. Since graduating in 2007, he has done defense-side labor and employment law at Godfrey & Kahn’s Madison office.

Harrison also is very active in the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, named after an early civil rights lawyer, which promotes economic development though education programs for black youths.
