Donsia Strong Hill, the first African-American woman to join the Milwaukee-based law firm, Godfrey & Kahn, was one of eight inductees to the first class of the College of Applied Science and Technology Hall of Fame at Illinois State University. She currently is a shareholder in the Business Practice Group at Godfrey & Kahn. von Briesen & Roper, s.c., announced the addition of five attorneys: Shareholder Sally C. Merrell and Associates Nathan G. Erickson, Sally A. Ihlenfeld, Whitney R. Vallier and Jessica M. Zeratsky.

Merrell is a Shareholder in the Business Practice Group focusing on estate planning, estate and trust administration, charitable gift planning and private foundations. Merrell earned a J.D. in 1980 from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Erickson is a member of the Business Practice Group where he focuses on general corporate law, securities, and the purchase, sale and leasing of commercial real estate. He earned a J.D. in 2008 from Marquette University.

Ihlenfeld is a member of the Health Care Practice Group. Her practice focuses on general health law, including medical staff, risk management and patient care matters. She earned a J.D. in 2008 from Marquette University.

Vallier is a member of the firm’s Health Care and Business Practice Groups. Her practice focuses on providing comprehensive corporate transactional services to the firm’s hospital and health system industry clients by reviewing and crafting corporate organizational documents and contracts. She earned a J.D., cum laude, in 2008 from the University of Wisconsin.

Zeratsky is a member of the Banking, Bankruptcy, Business Restructuring and Real Estate Practice Group. Her practice focuses on commercial and bankruptcy litigation, business restructuring, loan documentation, work-outs, and general debtor and creditor law. She earned a J.D. in 2003 from Marquette University. Sara E. Dill has joined the Milwaukee law firm of Friebert, Finerty & St. John, S.C., as an associate. Dill focuses her practice in the areas of both domestic and international immigration law and criminal defense. She received her J.D., cum laude, in 2005 from Marquette University. Quarles & Brady announced that Chairman John W. Daniels Jr. was inducted into the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) Hall of Fame at its 2009 Annual National Convention Awards Gala on March 21.

Daniels was honored for his commitment to justice and remarkable achievements that have opened doors for minority legal professionals. He joins a select list of legal experts who have been designated by NBLSA.

At Quarles & Brady, he has concentrated on creating an environment focused on client-centric service which has, as one of its fundamental premises, that even skilled lawyers need to better understand the business needs and complexities of their clients.

The firm also announced that Jessica A. Van Bommel has joined the firm’s growing Health Law group.

Van Bommel focuses her practice on the representation of health care providers including hospitals, health systems, physicians and physician group practices. She received her law degree from New York University School of Law. The Volunteer Center of Waukesha County’s April 2 “Inspire by Example” Annual Volunteer Recognition & Celebration luncheon celebrated the spirit of volunteerism and awarded Stuart Schroeder the Bruce Gill Executive Volunteer of the Year Award.

The late Bruce Gill was the senior editor for the suburban news at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. As a community volunteer he was involved in the Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha and served as master of ceremonies for the Volunteer Center of Waukesha County’s recognition ceremony.

Schroeder is the founder and CEO of The Schroeder Group, S.C., Attorneys at Law and has been practicing law for over 30 years. Schroeder was recognized, along with five other volunteers, was honored for helping others through his volunteer efforts.

The Volunteer Center of Milwaukee will bestow five “Inspire by Example” awards at its Volunteer Celebration on April 23 at the Italian Conference Center. Reservations for the 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. event are available by calling 414-273-7887.

Among the award winners is José Olivieri of Michael Best & Friedrich, who will receive the Fran Swigart Board Leadership Award. His current and past board service has benefited the United Community Center, Lutheran Social Services, Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Milwaukee Community Service Corp., and the University of the Wisconsin Board of Regents, among others. Olivieri also has served on various community-based commissions and councils.

The award is named in honor of one of Milwaukee’s most respected volunteer leaders.
