Who's Doing What

von Briesen & Roper, s.c., announced that Shareholder Roy E. Wagner has received the 2008 Charles Dunn Author Award during the Annual State Bar Convention, which was presented by Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson. Wagner and co-author Terry Peppard were selected to receive the award by the State Bar Communications Committee for their article entitled “Mediating Complex Construction Claims.” 

Wagner was also recently re-elected to serve his second term as the Chairperson of the Construction and Public Contract Law Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin.  Wagner received a J.D. in 1978 from Marquette University. 

The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP announced that James J. Chiolino has been appointed by Mayor David Cieslewicz to a two-year term on Madison's Affirmative Action Commission. 

Chiolino focuses his practice in the Labor & Employment Group. Prior to joining the firm, he capped a long career in State service working as Chief of the Wisconsin Equal Rights Division's labor standards section for six years and Chief in the Division's civil rights section for one year. He also has national expertise in wage and hour matters and significant experience counseling employers about compliance in other areas.

He earned his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. announced that Michael Murphy has been elected Chair of the Indian Law Section of the Wisconsin State Bar. Murphy was awarded this designation at the State Bar of Wisconsin Convention held in Milwaukee on May, 7. 

Murphy, a descendant of the Nez Perce, Washoe and Paiute tribes, is an attorney in the Madison office of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. where he leads the firm’s Indian Law practice. He applies his in-house and private sector legal experience to assist tribal governments and tribal entities in federal Indian law, tribal governance, sovereignty and jurisdiction, gaming, labor and employment, contract negotiations and litigation. Murphy has handled litigation in tribal, federal and state jurisdictions. 

He earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1996. 

José Olivieri, Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, received the Fran Swigart Board Leadership Award from the Volunteer Center of Greater Milwaukee. Olivieri is only the second recipient of the Fran Swigart Board Leadership Award, named in honor of one of Milwaukee’s most respected volunteer leaders. 

In his law practice, Olivieri counsels management in labor and employment law matters regarding federal and state discrimination law; NLRB and WERC law; the Fair Labor Standards Act; employee termination and discipline; unemployment compensation; and labor contract administration. 

He earned his J.D. from Marquette in 1981.

The firm also announced that the following associates have been elected to the partnership. 

Timothy M. Hansen is a trial lawyer and a member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group.

Hansen has a general commercial litigation practice with substantial experience in both state and federal court. He received a J.D., with distinction, in 2002 from the University of Iowa College of Law.

Aaron H. Kastens is a member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Kastens has broad experience litigating matters in both federal and state court. Kastens received a J.D., cum laude, in 2002 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Katrina G. Hull has joined the firm as a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Hull focuses her practice on trademark and copyright law, including enforcement, international and domestic trademark prosecution, trademark clearance searching, licensing, unfair competition, and Internet issues. 

Hull is a 2005 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law where she was Note and Comment Editor for the Kansas Law Review.

Stafford Rosenbaum LLP announced that Bradford L. Murphy has been appointed the firm's Chief Executive Officer. 

Murphy, formerly with the Burish Group of UBS, will be assisting the firm's board of directors with the development and execution of the strategic plan including setting the firm's direction and guiding its future growth. He will also oversee the day-to-day management of finances, business operations, staff and facilities. 

Milwaukee-area Attorney Steven McGaver has been elected to the Board of the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Wisconsin. McGaver is an associate with the Milwaukee law firm of Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown where he focuses his litigation oriented practice on criminal, civil, municipal and licensing matters. He graduated from Marquette University Law School, cum laude, in 2006. 

Glendale Attorney Jill Kastner has also been elected President-elect of the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Kastner, who has past experience on the YLD Board, also serves as the President of the Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association and writes for and is Editor of The Affiliate, a nation-wide publication of the American Bar Association YLD.

She practices business litigation and intellectual property law in the Milwaukee area.

Milwaukee-area Attorney Lindsey King has also been elected to the Board of the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Wisconsin. King, who graduated from the Marquette University Law School in 2005, is an associate of the Milwaukee law firm of Petrie & Stocking S.C. where she practices primarily in litigation with a focus on labor & employment law. She has litigation experience in the areas of collection matters, environmental law, residential real estate transactions and contract disputes. 

Grzeca Law Group, S.C., an Immigration Law Firm, announced that Founding & Managing Partner Jerry Grzeca has been selected as a recipient of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) 2009 President’s Commendation for Outstanding Leadership as Chair of this year’s annual conference.

The Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin will be honored at the American Association of Law Libraries Annual Meeting this July in Washington, D.C.  The organization is being recognized for its 2008 marketing efforts. The Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin published a calendar in 2008 that highlighted unique locations around the state and dates of interest to the Wisconsin legal community.

The Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin is a chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries.

Attorney Joseph M. Maier has joined the firm of O’Neil Cannon Hollman and DeJong. He assists businesses, their owners and investors with employee benefit design and ERISA issues and executive compensation planning, income tax planning surrounding the creation, operation and liquidation of business entities and the creation, formation, merger and acquisition of businesses. 

Maier graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1995.

The Alverno College Board of Trustees has elected to its board Christopher E. Ware, attorney at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. 

Ware serves as co-chair of Reinhart’s White Collar Litigation and Corporate Compliance group, and is a member of the Product Distribution and Franchise Team. His areas of practice include antitrust, unfair trade practice disputes, internal and external investigations and fraud. He earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan in 1995.  Swendson/Menting Law Ltd. announced the promotion of Attorney Emily A. Fey to Senior Associate. Fey joined the firm in 2004 and concentrates her practice in the areas of Estate Planning, Asset Protection, Probate and Trust Administration.

She earned her J.D. from Drake University in Iowa.
