PEWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) — The family of an Illinois man who drowned while on a fishing trip at a resort in Canada is suing the southeastern Wisconsin-based company that runs the resort.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/2v0PkIZ ) reports that the wrongful-death action filed in U.S. District Court in Milwaukee claims that North Haven Resort in Manitoba was negligent and didn’t provide Neil Brown a life preserver and didn’t train the boat driver properly.
The suit says the 80-year-old Bloomington resident died on June 16, 2016, after the boat he was on hit a rock and flung him into the water.
The suit says that while Brown survived the crash, he wasn’t able to stay afloat while waiting for rescuers to arrive.
The resort appears to be one of three connected to the Wisconsin-based North Star Resort, Inc.
