An East Troy attorney is facing a 60-day license suspension over allegations that she improperly benefited from a will she had drafted.

According to a complaint filed on June 30 by the Office of Lawyer Regulation, Linda Gray drafted and executed a will in 2013 for Marianne Armaganian of New Berlin. The will bequeathed the balance of the woman’s estate to Gray, who executed the will.

In January 2015, Armaganian died, and Gray received nearly $300,000 from the woman’s estate, according to the OLR. Armaganian was a social worker in Milwaukee, Racine and Walworth counties for more than 40 years, according to her obituary.

State Supreme Court rules prohibit lawyers from significantly benefiting from wills they draft for their clients, except under certain circumstances, such as when a client is a relative. Gray was not related to Armaganian.

The OLR is asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to suspend Gray’s license for 60 days. Gray could not be reached on Tuesday.

Gray, who graduated from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1982, has never been disciplined by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Her license is active and in good standing, according to the OLR and State Bar websites.
