Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel has appointed a new leader for the state Department of Justice’s Training and Standards Bureau.

Schimel announced Monday that he had tapped Michael Akselrud to lead the bureau, which trains law-enforcement officers, as well as jail and secure-detention officers. Akselrud has been a DOJ compliance officer for nearly three years. He replaces Tony Barthuly, who was promoted earlier this year to be administrator of the DOJ’s Division of Law Enforcement Services.

Before working for the DOJ, Akselrud spent more than 20 years working for the U.S. Marine Corps.
