Gov. Scott Walker has appointed a Milwaukee attorney to serve on the University of Wisconsin System’s Board of Regents.

The 18-member board establishes rules and policies for the UW system.

Walker announced Wednesday that he had appointed the lawyer Mike Jones, of counsel at Michael Best, to serve as one of the 14 citizen members on the board.

Jones is of counsel at Michael Best’s Milwaukee office. His work is mostly in corporate governance and commercial transactions, according to the firm’s website.

Before working for Michael Best, Jones spent 30 years working for Miller Coors. During that time, he had worked as an intern, counsel to various groups and departments within the company and senior vice president. Jones retired from Miller Coors in 2012.

He earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1984.

Jones was one of two appointments to the board Walker announced Wednesday. Both will go before the state Senate for confirmation.
