A Madison attorney who is also a Fitchburg alderman is fighting charges that he broke several rules of attorney conduct.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation charged Jason Gonzalez with nine counts of misconduct last year.  The alleged misconduct stems from his handling of two clients’ cases and includes failing to do legal research, failing to communicate with or respond to a client and failing to diligently pursue a client’s case.

The OLR is asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to publicly reprimand Gonzalez. He is being represented by Peyton Engel and Marcus Berghahn of Harley, Burish and Stanton in Madison.

According to court records, Gonzalez and the OLR have set a two-day final hearing for 9 a.m. Aug. 10 and 11 at the Wisconsin State Bar Center, 5302 Eastpark Blvd., Madison. The high court has appointed James Boll to be the referee in the matter.
