Federal judge to give lecture at UW on civil rights

A district court judge for the Eastern District of Wisconsin will give a lecture at the University of Wisconsin Law School.

District Court Judge Lynn Adelman will give the 2017 Thomas E. Fairchild Lecture at 4 p.m. April 7 at Godfrey & Kahn Hall at the University of Wisconsin Law School. A reception will follow.

Adelman’s lecture is titled “The Erosion of Civil Rights and What to Do About it.” He has written articles on topics such as federal sentencing, federal habeas corpus and extremist speech on the Internet.

Adelman was appointed in 1997 by President Bill Clinton. Before he was a judge, Adelman was a lawyer in Milwaukee and New York, arguing before both the U.S. and state Supreme Courts. He was also a Wisconsin state senator for 20 years.

Adelman is a graduate of Princeton University and Columbia University Law School.
