APPLETON, Wis. (AP) — An Appleton woman has been convicted of fatally stabbing her husband more than four years ago.

A jury in Outagamie County returned a guilty verdict for 39-year-old Mastella Jackson on Wednesday night. The defense had argued there was no testimony identifying Jackson as the person who killed Derrick Whitlow at a Grand Chute motel in February of 2012.

The verdict follows a ruling by the state Supreme Court which upheld an appeals decision to reinstate some physical evidence in the case.

An Outagamie County judge in 2014 ruled that police violated Jackson’s right while questioning her. USA Today Network reports Judge Mark McGinnis suppressed those statements and some physical evidence found as a result of those statements.
