MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Attorney General Brad Schimel has replaced the state Justice Department’s top detective.

DOJ spokesman Johnny Koremenos said Friday that Schimel moved Division of Criminal Investigation Administrator Dave Matthews into a policy adviser position on Thursday and moved Deputy DCI Administrator Jason Smith into the top position.

Koremenos said Schimel wanted a different management style in DCI and Matthew’s new role will allow him to use his extensive law enforcement experience to conduct complex policy analysis and manage DOJ’s continuity of government planning.

Matthews will continue to earn his $119,000 annual salary in his new position.
