GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Bond has been set at $1 million for a Brown County man accused of killing his live-in girlfriend.

Thirty-four-year-old Douglass Detrie appeared in court on Wednesday but has not been formally charged in the death of Nicole VanderHeyden. The body of the 31-year-old mother of three was found in a Bellevue field on Saturday, about three miles from the couple’s home.

WLUK-TV reports prosecutors say VanderHeyden had been strangled and beaten. Brown County District Attorney David Lasee says he’s waiting for evidence test results before filing a formal complaint against Detrie.

Defense attorney Rick Meier says probable cause has not been established for a first-degree homicide charge.
