MILWAUKEE (AP) — A software engineer is charged in federal court in Milwaukee with stealing trade secrets from his former employer, Rockwell Automation.

Forty-five-year-old Tan Liu is accused of stealing information about new Rockwell products in development. A federal indictment says Liu copied thousands of files to a flash drive in 2014 after informing his superiors that he was leaving his job. The files included designs for Rockwell products that had not been released.

The Journal Sentinel reports the indictment says Liu admitted to copying the files and told Rockwell superiors he needed them for a job interview in Colorado. Rockwell contacted the FBI. The company says the stolen information apparently never made it into the wrong hands.
