In taking over the helm of the Wisconsin Law Journal, David Sherman brings with him years of experience of working with legal publications, as well as familiarity with the Milwaukee area.

Sherman, who took over as president and publisher of the Wisconsin Law Journal this week, comes into his new position after having worked as senior director of sales at the Law Bulletin Publishing Co. in downtown Chicago, a group that includes the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and Chicago Lawyer magazine. Before coming to the Wisconsin Law Journal, Sherman was ad director at Chicago Magazine, the largest publication of its sort in the country.

Sherman says he’s “very happy to be back in Milwaukee.”

“About 10 years ago, I managed the sales teams for the CNI paper group in the Milwaukee suburbs and loved the people, businesses and community,” he said. “So this is a homecoming of sorts.”

Sherman succeeds Bill Gaier, who was recently named president and publisher of the Minneapolis-based Finance & Commerce Inc. Both Finance & Commerce and the Wisconsin Law Journal are part of The Dolan Co., which is owned by New York-based New Media Investment Group’s GateHouse Media division.

“The Wisconsin Law Journal is such an important part of the state’s legal community and I’m proud to be associated with such a well-respected publication and editorial team,” Sherman said.
