EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — State investigators will review squad car video and forensic evidence and interview witnesses as they evaluate the fatal shooting of a Minnesota man by a Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy.
Authorities have not yet identified the man who was killed or the Eau Claire County deputy who shot him. Sheriff’s officials say the deputy pulled the man over in Eau Claire Sunday for a traffic violation and found he was wanted on two federal probation and parole warrants.
Sheriff Ron Cramer says the man became confrontational and put a Taser-like device up to the deputy’s chest. The suspect continued to advance toward the deputy as he tried to back away. Cramer says that’s when the man was shot. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Eau Claire.
The state Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the shooting.
