MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Milwaukee man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for fatally beating his father last year.

Forty-one-year-old John Edward Balistreri blamed his 77-year-old father for his mother’s death 25 years earlier.

Balistreri pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors recommended a sentence of 15 years in prison, plus 10 more on supervision.

Balistreri did not address the court Monday. His attorney urged the judge to accept the state’s recommended sentence.

But the Journal Sentinel reports Judge Ellen Brostrom said Balistreri’s apparent inability to have any remorse made him a danger.

Balistreri blamed his father, John Balistreri, for his mother’s death decades earlier. His mother died of a blood clot in her brain that Balistreri attributed to his father’s beatings.
