LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A La Crosse teenager has pleaded guilty to fatally shooting another teen last summer.
Eighteen-year-old Deshawn Randall pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree intentional homicide.
WXOW-TV reports Randall’s attorney said during the hearing that pleading guilty was a better option for his client than going to trial.
Randall was accused of shooting 17-year-old George Miller on Aug. 21 as Miller sat in a car. Miller ran away, only to be chased down a few minutes later by Randall. A witness then heard several shots.
Prosecutors say Randall shot Miller nine times and then held off police for four hours before finally surrendering.
Sentencing is set for April 8. The La Crosse Tribune reports Randall faces life in prison with the possibility of release after 20 years.
