MILWAUKEE (AP) — A suburban Milwaukee woman has pleaded not guilty in the death of a 6-month-old girl she was caring for in her home.
Thirty-year-old Carrie Heller of Cudahy pleaded not guilty to first-degree reckless homicide and waived her right to a preliminary hearing Thursday.
Police say Heller gave conflicting statements to investigators about what happened to the baby. A doctor determined that the child died of head trauma. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Heller’s attorney, Matthew Meyer, says the defense will show a much different version of events than the prosecution has alleged.
Heller is scheduled to return to court Feb. 8 for a hearing. She’s being held in jail on a $50,000 bond.
