Supreme Court to hear Miranda rights case

Listen to this articleMADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear the case of an Appleton woman accused of fatally stabbing her husband.
The Court of Appeals reversed a circuit court judge’s decision to suppress evidence in the case because of police misconduct.
Mastella Jackson is charged in Outagamie County in the 2012 death of her husband, Derrick Whitlow, who had been stabbed about 25 times at a Grand Chute hotel.
Post-Crescent Media says police interrogated Jackson for hours without informing her of her Miranda rights. She made statements incriminating herself and directed police to a garbage can at her Appleton home where a knife and bloody clothes were found. The circuit court suppressed Jackson’s statements and the evidence because of the Miranda rights issue.
The state Supreme Court will hear the case Jan. 25.
