A federal judge has sentenced a Tomah man for possessing firearms as a felon.

Kurt Epps, 53, pleaded guilty July 6 to the charge. U.S. District Judge James Peterson sentenced Epps on Thursday to 3 years and 10 months in federal prison, according to a news release.

Epps was arrested Jan. 31 in Coon Valley while trying to sell firearms stolen Jan. 28 from a Richland County home. Epps had attempted to sell the stolen guns to a private citizen, who contacted the Coon Valley Police Department.

This is not the first time Epps has been convicted of possessing firearms as a felon. He was previously convicted of the same charge in 1993.
