STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) — A cellmate is accused of helping a man in the Portage County Jail in a suicide attempt.

Nineteen-year-old Brian Kraus is charged with a felony which carries up to three years in prison. Prosecutors say the teen tried to help an accused killer in his cell secure towels around his neck. According to a criminal complaint, Kraus watched as his cellmate tried to hang himself with the towels in June. Jailers discovered the attempt and the inmate was taken to a hospital.

WAOW-TV reports Kraus was in the county jail after pleaded not guilty to arson.

Kraus is due in court Monday. Court records do not list a defense attorney.
