The Wisconsin Supreme Court has appointed District 2 Court of Appeals Judge Lisa Neubauer as chief judge for the state Court of Appeals.

Neubauer will serve a three-year term starting Aug. 2, according to a news release. She will replace outgoing Court of Appeals Chief Judge Richard Brown, who is retiring from the District 2 bench Aug. 1. Brown has been on the Court of Appeals bench since its inception in 1978 and has been chief judge since 2007.

Neubauer has been a District 2 presiding judge since 2009. She was first appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2007. She was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2014.

Before serving on the court, Neubauer was a private practice attorney and law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Barbara Crabb. She graduated with honors from the University of Chicago Law School.

The chief judge for the Court of Appeals maintains a caseload while managing the four-district, 16-judge Court of Appeals.
