The Wisconsin State Law Library is renaming its branches in Milwaukee and Madison.

The Milwaukee Legal Resource Center will be renamed the Milwaukee County Law Library, and the Dane County Legal Resource Center’s name will be changed to the Dane County Law Library.

The name changes took effect Thursday, coinciding with National Library Week.

The name change is intended in part to distinguish law library services from services that provide legal assistance in the Milwaukee and Dane county courthouses, including the Milwaukee Justice Center, the Family Court Clinic and the Small Claims Assistance program, according to a news release.

The State Law Library has partnered to provide law library services with Dane County since 1999 and with Milwaukee County since 1996. Before that, the local governments in Milwaukee and Madison provided law library services on their own, according to the release.
