A Waunakee man has been charged with filing a false tax return for the 2009 tax year.

Uri Fried, 58, allegedly filed a tax return that understated his 2009 income by more than $1 million, according to a news release.

Fried faces a maximum of three years in federal prison, according to the release. He waived his right to indictment by a grand jury and was charged Tuesday.

Fried is scheduled to plead guilty on May 22 before U.S. District Judge James Peterson. In his plea agreement, he agreed that he did not report $1,980,035 of his income, and he agreed to cooperate with the IRS in payment of all taxes interest and penalties due.
