Shoppers could get liquor samples along with their weekly groceries under a bill approved by the state Assembly on Thursday.
Current law allows grocery stores and other holders of “Class A” liquor licenses to provide samples of only beer and wine on their premises.
Assembly Bill 18, which still must be approved by the state Senate and signed by Gov. Scott Walker to become law, also would allow liquor samples of no more than half a fluid ounce to be served.
The samples could only be offered between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., according to the proposed legislation. The bill would allow representatives of distillers, wineries and out-of-state shippers to help serve the samples, but would exclude wholesalers.
