Milwaukee attorneys seek to lead State Bar

deisinger-lyonsA shareholder at Davis & Kuelthau SC and the general counsel at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren SC will square off in the 2015 race to lead the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Attorneys Kevin Lyons and Francis Deisinger, both University of Wisconsin Law School graduates with decades of practice in the state, accepted nominations to run for president-elect in the new year, according to a news release from the State Bar.

Lyons has been licensed since 1970 and handles appellate, environmental and construction cases at Davis & Kuelthau in Milwaukee.

Deisinger joined Reinhart the year he graduated from law school, 1982, and is a shareholder in the Milwaukee firm’s litigation practice in addition to his role as general counsel. He was one of Wisconsin Law Journal’s 2014 Leaders in the Law. He is a former president of the Milwaukee Bar Association.

State Bar elections take place in April, according to the release, and the men will be competing for a one-year term as president.

Several other candidates were announced Monday, as well.

The candidates for a two-year term as treasurer are attorney Timothy O’Brien of Bakke Norman SC, New Richmond, and Paul Swanson of Steinhilber, Swanson, Mares, Marone & McDermott in Oshkosh.

Running for three-year terms on the Judicial Council are: attorneys Thomas Bertz of Anderson, O’Brien, Bertz, Skrenes & Golla LLP in Stevens Point and Joseph Russell of von Briesen & Roper SC, Milwaukee.

All candidates were selected by the State Bar Nominating Committee, according to the release. Those elected will take office July 1.
