BARRON, Wis. (AP) — The former Waupun police officer charged in a multi-county crime spree has been given probation in one of the counties.

The Beaver Dam Daily Citizen reports Bradley Young was sentenced in Barron County to six years in prison, with the sentence immediately stayed by Circuit Judge James Babler. Babler put Young on probation for three years.

Young pleaded guilty in October to taking and driving a vehicle without consent.

Young, a former lieutenant, was charged with crimes in Barron, Green Lake and Burnett counties in summer 2013.

Prosecutors say Young broke into grocery stores in Berlin and Markesan and a town of Green Lake restaurant. He was arrested at a cabin in Burnett County following a manhunt.
