JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) — An Illinois man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed two motorcyclists in southern Wisconsin.

Authorities say 24-year-old Sambath Pal, of Park City, Ill., was driving an SUV that crossed the center line on Highway 14 near Janesville last April. Pal struck two motorcycles in a group of riders, killing 24-year-old Mitchell Vance and 18-year-old Devin Julius, both of Janesville. WKOW-TV reports Pal told a judge in Rock County Circuit Court on Wednesday that he left the scene following the crash because he was terrified and in shock.

Pal earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of hit-and-run involving death. Authorities say Pal’s father, also of Park City, reported his son to authorities when he learned details of the accident from family members in Janesville.
