U.S. Attorney Jim Santelle’s office will prosecute a Chicago attorney and a cohort who were indicted Thursday for allegedly scheming to lie during a drug trial in 2009.

Attorney Beau Brindley, and Marina Collazo, are charged with colluding and presenting false testimony in a drug trial involving Alexander Vasquez. According to the indictment, Brindley, while representing Vasquez, prepared testimony for him and recruited Collazo to lie at the trial.

Brindley also allegedly enlisted a co-defendant to plead guilty without revealing anything about his client’s involvement.

According to the indictment, Vasquez and Collazo are charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice through the presentation of false testimony and three counts of perjury. Brindley is also charged with obstruction of justice.

Brindley is not licensed to practice law in Wisconsin.

Santelle is handling the case because prosecutors in the Northern District of Illinois recused themselves. The case will be heard in Chicago.
