The Office of the Director of State Courts is taking applications for its next training seminars for court interpreters.

The next training session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14 at the UW-Extension Pyle Center in Madison. The cost for the weekend is $175.

Training will cover the fundamentals of court interpreting, including ethical conduct, legal terminology, court procedure and basic interpreting skills, according to a news release. It is designed to teach the basics of court interpreting, and is not an in-depth seminar.

Spanish court interpreters are the most in-demand, according to a news release, though some now are looking for those fluent in Arabic, Burmese, Farsi, French, Khmer, Russian, Somali and Tibetan, as well as rare languages such as Chin, Karen, Kareeni and Mon. Sign language interpreters are also encouraged to apply, according to the release.

Those who attend the session and meet requirements will be put on a list that goes to courts, law enforcement agencies, lawyers and other agencies.

The deadline to apply is Aug 29.
