Man gets 25 years for homicide in Grand Chute

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) — A Milwaukee man whose earlier conviction was overturned has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing a Minnesota man in 2008.

Thirty-one-year-old Michael Potts will be on 20 years of extended supervision after he’s released from prison.

Potts was on trial in March when he pleaded no contest to an amended count of first-degree reckless homicide. He was originally charged with intentional homicide after police said he shot Artheddius Peeler of Plymouth, Minn., in Grand Chute on Oct. 26, 2008.

Potts was given credit for 5-½ years he’s been in custody.

Post-Crescent Media reports a judge overturned an earlier jury verdict in February 2012, saying Potts’ former attorney failed to include testimony from two people who said they heard a co-defendant admit to being the shooter.
