MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s courts office is recruiting interpreters fluent in Middle Eastern or Asian languages.

Spanish interpreters are requested most often, but court officials are working to hire qualified interpreters for other languages, particularly those spoken by incoming refugee populations.

The courts office seeks people fluent in Arabic, Burmese, Farsi, French, Khmer, Russian, Somali and Tibetan. The office is also looking for people fluent in sign language.

Those who are interested would have to attend training to learn the fundamentals of interpreting in court. Training sessions will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on March 7 and 8. There’s a $175 training fee.

Applications are due Feb. 21. For more information, visit the website of the Director of State Courts Office interpreter program.
