A Madison criminal defense lawyer who specializes in OWI cases was sentenced to jail Friday for drunken driving.

Michele Tjader, 42, was arrested in March after being pulled over by Madison police, according to a news release from the state Attorney General’s Office. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor OWI-second offense in November in front of Dane County Circuit Judge Stephen Ehlke.

On Friday, the judge sentenced her to 25 days in jail, in addition to revoking her license for 16 months, according to the release.

She will also have an ignition interlock device on her vehicle for a year once she starts driving again, and will also have to undergo an alcohol assessment.

Tjeder’s website states that she is a past-president of the Dane County Bar Association and is also a member of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National College of DUI Defense, and OWI Round Table.

Tjader was admitted to the State Bar in 1996 after graduating from Marquette Law School. She was publicly disciplined by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2002 for misconduct when representing a client in a prison and probation matter.
