Convicted bigamist gets new sentencing

NEW LONDON, Wis. (AP) — A convicted bigamist has been arrested in New London after failing to show up to a sentencing hearing last month.

New London Police Chief Jeffrey Schlueter said 46-year-old Tim Swinea was arrested Sunday in New London on two warrants, according to the Daily Herald Media.

A Calumet County warrant was issued for Swinea’s arrest after he failed to appear for sentencing Jan. 21. He faces a felony forgery conviction related to an alleged check-kiting scheme.

Calumet County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Froehlich revoked Swinea’s bond Monday and scheduled the sentencing for March 31.

Swinea’s former girlfriend, Penny Schoenke of Menasha, told police Swinea stole thousands of dollars from her business during the course of their whirlwind relationship.

“I’m very, very happy and hope to get some closure,” Schoenke told the newspaper.

The Department of Corrections also issued an arrest warrant for Swinea in November, after Swinea allegedly violated the terms of his probation relating to a felony bigamy conviction in Marathon County.

In that case, Swinea was sentenced to time served and three years of probation. Swinea’s former wife, Dawn Paglini of Weston, said she learned in December 2012 that Swinea was married to a Missouri woman with whom he fathered three children. On a marriage application, Swinea claimed he had never been married.
