OK, this is a cool find! The National Association of State Chief Information Officers maintains a catalog of “native, state government mobile apps for smart phones and tablets.”
The State Mobile Apps Catalog is an online interactive map of more than 200 state-specific apps.
The apps cover a wide range of topics. For example, who knew that Montana has an app to help discover the great Montana outdoors? Other subjects include law enforcement, transportation/traffic, public safety, legislature, and business. Wisconsin apps include Travel Wisconsin, the Department of Revenue, the DMV driver practice test, and a hunting guide.
Researchers can browse the entire collection, select a specific state, or view apps based on a particular topic. Once an app is selected, the user is provided with a brief summary of the app, the date it was submitted to NASCIO, and what platforms are available for download.
The website is updated regularly and the apps are free.
