STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) — Prosecutors have added new charges against a former University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point student accused of violating a restraining order.
A Stevens Point Journal Media report says 34-year-old Jeffrey Decker of Oshkosh was arrested Dec. 7 at UW-Stevens Point. A caller told police Decker was violating a court order barring him from all UW campuses.
Decker has protested at UW meetings, claiming that officials have illegally blocked students’ access to millions of dollars of their own fees.
A Madison judge issued a restraining order, saying his appearances constituted harassment. However, an appeals court rejected that argument.
Portage County prosecutor David Knaapen said he believes the restraining order still applies until the state Supreme Court weighs in.
Decker calls that logic absurd. He said he’ll ask to have the case dismissed.
