Who’s Doing What: Judges Froehlich, Kremers earn awards from State Bar

Retired Outagamie County Circuit Court Judge Harold Froehlich received the Lifetime Jurist Achievement Award, and Milwaukee County Circuit Court Chief Judge Jeffrey Kremers received the Judge of the Year Award from the State Bar of Wisconsin in November.

As a chief judge, and as president of the Wisconsin Trial Judges Association, Froehlich worked on issues such as judicial compensation and improving the system for reimbursing counties for guardian ad litem and interpreter fees.

Kremers was among the first to survey the damage caused by the electrical fire that shut down the Milwaukee County Courthouse and Safety Building in early July. The fire caused millions of dollars in damage.

Sherry Coley of Godfrey & Kahn S.C. was elected chairperson of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Board of Governors. She is one of the youngest to ever receive the honor and will serve a one-year term. The State Bar of Wisconsin’s Board of Governors manages and directs the affairs and activities of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Coley is a member of the firm’s litigation practice group in the Green Bay office. She earned her law degree in 2003 from Marquette University Law School.

Gini Hendrickson was named an associate and Mario Mendoza and William Morgan were named shareholders at Murphy Desmond S.C.

Hendrickson’s practice focuses on estate planning and probate, business, and real estate matters. She earned her law degree in 2002 from Pace University School of Law.

Mendoza’s legal practice focuses on assisting clients in business and real estate matters, family law, and litigation. He earned his law degree in 1996 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Morgan represents both public and private employers, focusing on employment and personnel related matters, including discrimination claims and administrative issues. Morgan earned his law degree in 1992 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP announced plans to acquire the Vantus Law Group based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Vantus addition will add eight new attorneys to the Michael Best team. Michael Best has targeted Utah as a key market for its core focus on protecting and developing the intangible assets of operating and growth technology companies and for serving the firm’s client base in western markets. The Vantus addition follows the opening of a new Michael Best office in Washington, D.C., last summer and the addition of four new partners, 16 new attorneys and six patent engineers and patent scientists in the firm’s Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago offices over the past several months. Vantus will officially join with Michael Best on Jan. 1.

Bartolomei joined the firm’s litigation practice group in the Milwaukee office. Bartolomei earned his law degree in 2013 from the University of Iowa College of Law.

Creagh joined the firm’s corporate practice group in the Milwaukee office. Creagh earned his law degree in 2013 from the University of Minnesota Law School.

Daugherty joined the firm’s estate planning practice group in the Milwaukee office. She earned her law degree in 2013 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Delsman joined the firm’s intellectual property practice group in the Milwaukee office. He earned his law degree in 2007 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Hurlbut joined the firm’s corporate practice group in the Green Bay office. He earned his law degree in 2013 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Irgens joined the firm’s securities practice group in the Milwaukee office. She earned her law degree in 2013 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Konopacky joined the firm’s environment and energy strategies practice group in the Milwaukee office. She earned her law degree in 2013 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Ludden joined the firm’s corporate practice group in the Milwaukee office. He earned his law degree in 2013 from Marquette University.

Rodriguez-Alfaro joined the firm’s real estate practice group in the Milwaukee office. She earned her law degree in 2013 from Marquette University.

York joined the firm’s banking and financial institutions practice group in the Milwaukee office. She earned her law degree in 2013 from Duke University School of Law.

• Rachel Bryers, Jacob Fritz, Michael Piery and Patrick Taylor joined Quarles & Brady LLP’s Milwaukee office as associates. Bryers joined the firm’s health law practice group. Fritz and Piery join the firm’s intellectual property group and Taylor joined the corporate services group.

Prior to joining the firm, Bryers was a senior law clerk at Assurant Health in its legal department. She earned her law degree in 2013 from Marquette University Law School.

While in law school, Fritz served as an extern in the Patent Legal Department of DEKA Research and Development Corp. where he worked with patent attorneys on patent application and office action drafting for U.S. and PCT applications. He earned his law degree in 2013 from the University of New Hampshire School of Law.

Piery served as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for more than four years. He earned his law degree in 2013 from George Washington University Law School.

While in law school, Taylor served as a judicial intern for Justice Patrick Crooks and as a judicial intern for Chief Judge Richard Brown of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. He earned his law degree in 2013 William & Mary Law School.
