MILWAUKEE (AP) – A judge has ordered the felon who was shot and wounded by police at a Milwaukee area hospital to remain in custody.

Ashanti Hendricks appeared in a Milwaukee County courtroom Tuesday handcuffed to a wheelchair and his left hand and arm bandaged. The 22-year-old Milwaukee man is charged with bail jumping, possessing a gun as a felon and resisting an officer.

Officers shot Hendricks twice in the arm last Thursday at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Police say they received a tip that Hendricks was wanted for possessing a gun as a felon and was believed to be carrying a weapon in the hospital.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Hendricks eluded officers during a chase on the hospital’s seventh floor. According to a criminal complaint, Hendricks was armed with a loaded semi-automatic weapon.
