MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A Wisconsin man arrested in the deaths of three retired farmers has been sent to a mental institution after a judge found he wasn’t competent to stand trial.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports 31-year-old Jaren Kuester was committed Thursday to Mendota Mental Health Institute.
The Waukesha man has been charged in the April deaths of Gary and Chloe Thoreson on their farm near Wiota and in the death of Gary Thoreson’s brother, Dean.
Kuester’s attorney, Guy Taylor, said he’s surprised his client was found incompetent and he expects the commitment to be temporary because Kuester’s mental health has been improving with new medication.
Kuester’s parents said previously that they had tried to get help for their son because he was delusional and they feared he would hurt someone.
