Milwaukee County may end up paying more than $43,000 to a West Allis towing company for a crash that claimed the life of a sheriff’s deputy.

The settlement, approved unanimously Thursday by Milwaukee County’s Judiciary, Safety and General Services Committee, would pay N&S Towing Inc. to replace a tow truck totaled when Deputy Sergio Aleman slammed into it in the southbound lane of Interstate 43. Aleman, an 18-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was killed in the July 2012 accident.

Mark Grady, one of the county’s attorneys, told the committee that a lawsuit had not been filed, though a claim was filed with the city in October 2012.

The settlement offer will now go to the full County Board for final approval.
