A Connecticut-based company that charged customers for services without their authorization is settling with 47 states and the District of Columbia for more than $30 million.

Affinion Group Inc, along with subsidiaries Trilegiant and Webloyalty, offered a variety of services, yet charged customers without their knowledge, according to a news release from state Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen’s office. Some customers also said they had trouble cancelling services or getting a refund, according to the release, while others were confused on which company they had paid.

The settlement, if approved, would essentially stop Affinion from signing up customers for services they didn’t know about. About $19 million of the settlement is expected to go toward customer refunds, and about $450,000 of the settlement money would go to Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s case is in front of Dane County Circuit Judge Juan Colas. He has not yet signed the settlement.
