SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) – A jury in Sheboygan County has rejected a self-defense argument and convicted a 23-year-old man in a fatal stabbing.
Michael Lemerande is guilty of second-degree reckless homicide for fatally stabbing 41-year-old Nicholas Lehrke in the back with a butcher knife during a fight in Sheboygan earlier this year. Lemerande argued he was defending a friend who was being attacked by Lehrke.
The Sheboygan Press Media says the prosecution maintained the fight was not more than a scuffle and that Lemerande’s friend was never in serious danger.
Lemerande faces up to 15 years in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
