Milwaukee County’s appeal of a federal judge’s decision to dismiss its lawsuit against Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be consolidated with three Illinois cases.
Milwaukee County sued Fannie Mae, formally the Federal National Mortgage Association, and Freddie Mac, formally the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp., in July 2012. The county alleged the entities illegally claimed exemptions from paying real estate transfer taxes on properties they sold.
United States District Judge Charles Clevert dismissed the county’s claim in July.
The three Illinois cases deal with a similar claim and were already bundled together for an appeal.
Milwaukee County has until Aug. 27 to file its brief in support of its appeal.
