MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Assembly is expected to take up a Republican bill that would allow attorneys to nullify court rulings blocking state laws by filing quick appeals.

Under the bill, an attorney could stay a trial judge’s order blocking a state law by filing an appeal within 10 days. The stay would remain in place until the appellate court or Supreme Court lifted it or disposed of the case with a final order.

The bill comes after Dane County judges last year struck down portions of Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s signature law stripping most public workers of nearly all their union rights and voided a GOP law mandating voters show photo identification.

The Assembly is set to vote on the bill Tuesday afternoon.
