Who’s Doing What: Attorneys earn awards, promoted

Awards & Honors

John Daniels Jr., chairman of Quarles & Brady LLP, recently received the Presidential Legacy Award from the National Bar Association. The Presidential Legacy Award is given to individuals who have been or are engaged in civic, entrepreneurial and professional endeavors that advance and preserve the heritage of African Americans.

Paul Hoefle of The Schroeder Group SC, Attorneys at Law, received the Cliff Dochterman Rotarian Award for Scouting. The Cliff Dochterman Award recognizes an individual Rotarian or Rotaractor who acts as a role model and renders distinguished and dedicated service to Scouting through active service, leadership or other exemplary contributions. Hoefle earned his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1981.

Thomas Shorter of Godfrey & Kahn SC, Milwaukee was elected to the board of directors for the Wisconsin Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives. The Wisconsin Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives is a nonprofit organization to serve the needs of Wisconsin’s health care community. Shorter earned his law degree from Northeastern University in 1996.

On the Rise

Kirk Deheck is a voting shareholder at Boyle Fredrickson SC, Milwaukee. He joined the firm in 2006. His practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, as well as intellectual property opinions and enforcement. He earned his degree from Marquette University Law School in 2003.

Douglas Dehler of O’Neil, Cannon, Hollman, DeJong & Laing SC, Milwaukee, was elected a shareholder of the firm. Dehler’s legal practice involves business litigation, class action litigation, whistleblower (qui tam) lawsuits, ERISA fiduciary litigation, and the representation of clients in a wide range of insurance matters, including insurance bad faith litigation. He earned his degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Joseph Heino, a shareholder with Davis & Kuelthau SC in Milwaukee, recently released a new book, titled “Intellectual Property for the Medical Professional.” Heino, a local intellectual property attorney, also published the novel, “Seamless,” a fictional Midwestern ghost story based on actual events in northern Wisconsin. Heino’s new book details his personal experiences as a registered U.S. patent attorney and provides an overview of patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret concepts protected under U.S. law. Heino earned his degree from Marquette University Law School.

Laura Lyons of Bell, Moore & Richter SC was named a shareholder with the firm. She has been practicing law in Dane County since 2005 and joined Bell, Moore & Richter SC in 2008. Her practice areas include civil litigation defense, worker’s compensation, employment law, employment litigation and appellate practice. She earned her degree from Marquette University Law School in 2005.

Von Briesen & Roper SC, Milwaukee, announced the launch of von Briesen University, the firm’s in-house technology and skills learning center. On Jan. 8, the firm held a collegiate tailgate-themed party for all employees that included cheerleaders from Carroll University. Bill Caraher, chief information officer, showed the crowd of more than 100 people the new interactive website offering one-button registration for classes, a course calendar, and up-to-date training videos.

Scott Thill joined Godfrey & Kahn SC’s health care practice group and primarily will work out of the Green Bay office. Thill focuses his practice on general health care matters including advising clients on compliance issues such as Stark, anti-kickback, fraud and abuse, and pharmacy law. In addition, he has experience in drafting and reviewing contracts for health care organizations. He earned his degree from The University of Iowa College of Law.
