GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – A man convicted of setting a fire at a Planned Parenthood building in Grand Chute has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Francis Grady apologized to employees at Planned Parenthood before he was sentenced in federal court in Green Bay Thursday.
Grady was convicted of arson last summer and told investigators that voices of children in his head told him to start the fire. Abortions are performed at the Grand Chute facility. He said he used a hammer to break a window at the clinic, then poured gas from a plastic bottle and used a lighter to ignite a small fire.
No one was injured in the fire last April.
WLUK-TV says Grady could have gone to prison for 21 years. His defense attorney argued for a lesser sentence, citing Grady’s history of alcohol abuse and mental illness.
