MILWAUKEE (AP) – A jury has been selected to hear the inquest into the death of a suspect while in Milwaukee police custody.

The jury of seven women and two men was selected Monday to hear evidence in the death of Derek Williams.

Williams died in July 2011 after gasping for breath and begging for help for about eight minutes in a police car.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports a pool of 32 jurors was called. More than a dozen said they had heard of the case and a couple said they had formed opinions. Of those picked, five are white, two are black and two are Hispanic.

Special prosecutor John Franke has listed more than 40 people he may call during the expected seven-day trial. The jury’s verdict will be advisory.
