WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — A 20-year-old Oconomowoc woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a heroin overdose that killed a Hartland man.

Dustin L. Williams’ mother found him unresponsive at their home in July 2011, shortly after a visit by Kandice Essmann, his friend since high school. He was pronounced dead at an Oconomowoc hospital.

Williams pleaded no contest in October to first-degree reckless homicide. She told investigators she bought them $50 worth of heroin, and that after she left Williams’ home, she threw out the needles the two had used along the side of the road.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Waukesha Circuit Judge William Domina added seven years of extended supervision at Essmann’s sentencing on Monday, and gave her credit for 220 days she’s been in jail.
