SPARTA, Wis. (AP) — A former Monroe County jailer has been sentenced to probation on a sex assault charge.

Judge Mark Goodman on Monday sentenced 27-year-old Jerry Friedl to four years of probation.

As part of his probation, Friedl must serve six months in jail, comply with sex offender registry requirements, provide a DNA sample, pay court costs and undergo a sex offender assessment. He also must have no contact with the victim or her family.

Friedl was accused of accused of sexually assaulting an inmate in August 2011. He pleaded no contest to third-degree sexual assault in July.

The case was investigated by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced the sentence Tuesday.
